About the artist.

Nick was born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire (of 'crooked spire' fame) in 1959. Despite attaining an 'A' in art at ‘A’ Level he was encouraged to go to University rather than Art School. He read Archaeology, Ancient History and Art History at Leicester University followed by a P.G.C.E.

After a short teaching career in Derbyshire, Nick joined an educational publisher and moved back to Leicestershire. Living in the country and fuelled by frequent visits to Cornwall, Scotland and the Lake District he became much more interested in Landscape painting. Nick moved back to Derbyshire and continued to paint. 2002 was the beginning of a new enterprise ‘Altered Images’ a small company that sold Nick’s prints and cards to galleries across Derbyshire.

In 2003 Nick and his wife became partners in another venture, Charisma Gallery based in Matlock. The gallery showcased Nick’s works along with other artists and craftspeople from all around the UK. Owning an art gallery had always been a dream of Nick’s and the experience gave him the encouragement he needed to take his art to the next level, professionally publishing his work and exhibiting in galleries throughout Britain. Nick spent 3 years with Fine Art Publishers Washington Green and is now represented by Buckingham Fine Art Publishers, His work can be found in many galleries throughout Britain and private collections worldwide. He also has some celebrities amongst his clients. Nick also exhibits his work in several Private Galleries.

Nick paints in his garden studio to the background of “ audio books” These are unabridged and can last up to 24 hours. He is so attuned to this way of working that he cannot paint without them. They are as much a part of the painting process as the paint or canvas.

Nick is renown for his ability to paint in many styles. He says it is “both a blessing and a curse”.

Nick usually paints with acrylics for their versatility and quick- drying properties. He paints quickly employing brushes, palette knives and other tools and creates various textures, dribbles, splatters and scrapings. He paints on board, canvas, mount board and paper. Nick sometimes includes collage in his work. He also paints with oils, watercolour, acrylic inks and mixed media. Recently he has also been producing monoprints. Nick works Monday to Friday in his studio and reserves weekends for family time.

Nick has had many One-man exhibitions and been included in numerous mixed exhibitions as well as providing private tuition, demonstrations and workshops for local Art Groups.

Nicks love of wild landscapes and his concerns regarding the pressures upon them fuels his desire to paint.

Nick now lives yards from the sea in Embleton on the fantastic Northumberland coast where he is inspired by the landscape and seascapes every day.
