Friday 2nd October

Best laid plans and all that….?

I painted my small 12”x12”  picture of Embleton Bay and framed it in a beautiful Buckinghams frame to enter, with another Buckinghams framed painting into The Northumberland Open Exhibition I talked about last week only to discover that submissions had been closed as the 500 entries had been reached. To say I was pissed off was an understatement!

It turned out not to be a complete waste of time though. I decided to contact Tallantyre Gallery in Morpeth as they had  lots of my work but hadn’t sold anything in months. I couldn’t really understand this as they had some good stuff and lots of variation. I emailed Jackie the Gallery Manager and tactfully pointed this out. I offered to do a swap round but felt a little discouraged by the situation. Jackie got back to me and said she to was baffled. She confirmed that all the work was on display and despite some interest no-one had committed. We’re going to change some work round on Saturday, including my now spare small, framed,  Embleton Bay picture and I’ll take it from there.

This is always an awkward situation for me.  If I ran a gallery (and as you know we did) I’d be a little embarrassed at not selling anything work for so long.  All my other galleries have sold work recently.  Tallantyre have sold work in the past. They sold the Croft picture to Robson Green! They sold 6 paintings at The Affordable Art Fair.  They are a well respected, established gallery. There is no reason why I shouldn’t sell paintings there. I always suspect that my work is not on display but apparently it is .  Hopefully things will change.

Another gallery which doesn’t always tell me when they’ve sold paintings paid me this week for the 6 paintings they’d sold over the Summer.

None of this makes my life any easier.

I completed my commission painting of Embleton Bay this week and will deliver it to the client tomorrow. I will get paid for that.

I also decided to stop putting off painting the edges on my 3 large Beckstones paintings and got that job done.

I also prepared 6 boards for my Buckinghams “Woodland “ paintings which I started on Thursday. I don’t really enjoy doing these because they take too long but Natasha has told me to enjoy the process. I will try .
