Friday 5th December
Bob at Watson Gallery in Edinburgh did pay me for the paintings they sold including the one I’d pointed out had sold from looking at the website. I’m still waiting to hear about the commission I did. The gallery will need to get it framed, so I don’t know whether the client has seen it yet.
Beckstones Gallery sold 2 large paintings to the guy who’d been in previously and wanted 3. I had painted one extra for him but he didn’t want the “lake painting “ of the same size, so will probably want another one painting in the near future.
These sales came at an opportune time just before Christmas. Both galleries are doing well for me.
We spent last weekend in Chesterfield, helping Natasha’s mum move house. It was hard work and we came back on Sunday night knackered.
I had tidied and closed my studio down for Christmas last week. I haven’t got any urgent projects on that required me to work in there. I have been asked by Gallery 45 to take part in their “Wild Northumberland “ Exhibition in February but I have paintings for that.
We are hosting a “Caribbean Christmas “ here this year with 10 people on Christmas Day so I have been spending some time preparing food to freeze for that as well as sorting the house, garage and studio.
Unable to stop work completely, I decided to paint some small (19cm x19cm ) watercolour/acrylics inks paintings either for the Gallery 45 Exhibition or elsewhere. I framed some last week and they look great so this week I decided to do some more.
Some might see this as “pointless“ painting but they’ll come in useful somewhere and it keeps me working during a bit of a strange period of the year.
I had to delay my quiz last wee as several “regular” teams couldn’t make it, so I’m doing it this week. I have already prepared my “Christmas Quiz “ which is always a crazy night the week before the big day. As every year goes by it gets harder to make the Christmas Quiz more interesting. I have done the “standard” Christmas Quizzes and now try to make them a bit different whilst still seasonal. I may even put it in my blog and get you lot to have a go.
I have managed to sell all my calendars and send most of them out. I have, in fact, ordered a few more as I still had a few people wanting them. I should, perhaps, do them every year as a lot of artists do. You have to get organised as they need to be ready early and advertised but it may be something to consider.
Despite my reflections last week, at this time of year, when I’m less active, I understand why I do this. As soon as I stop working I am itching to get back to painting. My head is full of ideas and if I lived alone and had no family commitments, I believe that I would just paint through Christmas! My studio can get a bit cold but I have a heater and I could just keep working even if it was just for me.
